Parade

Our little town has a parade on the 4th in the morning, but it is a mini parade. If you blink it is gone. There are the usual suspects, local volunteer fire departments with sirens and lights on, and a girl scout troop in the back of a pickup, a dressed up little girl on the roof of an SUV with her feet dangling on the inside. A very exciting tricked out lawn mower that does wheelies. A white mule with very long legs named Dirty Sally. The local shed supply store with a wooden train full of kids on the back of a flatbed... Everyone throws candy for the children on the street and now the boy has a tootsie roll in his pocket, but doesn't realize that it is edible. All of this is interesting, of course, but it is not the blowout Macy's parade exciting...

Unless you are a boy who loves a tractor...

And like we were stalking movie stars or a rarely seen animal, we followed the tractors to their parking spot so we could spend more time with them and take pictures with them. On the way we petted the white mule named Dirty Sally, who by the way was one of the cleanest equines I have ever seen. Her owner was even wiping her ears out.

He said, "those tact-os are too big, I proby ride the liddle one" referring to the little green John Deer that a sweet looking old man was driving. When that one passed us the boy started waving and waving like he was greeting a familiar friend. We couldn't find the liddle one but the big ones were a hit anyway.

Oh, the things you will do just to see your baby boy smile that big smile.
